We are seeking a methodical, incisive, and politically astute Legal Researcher & Policy Advocate to translate complex legal landscapes into effective advocacy strategies. In this role, you will be the backbone of our legislative and social justice initiatives, responsible for conducting deep-dive legal research, drafting policy briefs, and articulating our position to stakeholders, policymakers, and the public. If you possess a sharp analytical mind, a passion for systemic change, and the ability to craft compelling narratives from dry legal text, this is a critical role that drives our long-term mission and influences the legal frameworks governing our community.

Key Responsibilities
Deep-Dive Legal Research: Conduct comprehensive research on statutes, case law, and regulatory developments to support organizational campaigns and identify potential legal challenges or opportunities.

Policy Briefing & Drafting: Author high-impact policy briefs, white papers, and position statements that synthesize complex legal issues into clear, actionable recommendations for leadership and external partners.

Legislative Analysis: Monitor proposed legislation and administrative regulations, assessing their impact on our mission and identifying entry points for advocacy or intervention.

Advocacy Strategy: Collaborate with the leadership team to develop and implement long-term advocacy campaigns, including identifying key stakeholders, drafting testimony, and preparing materials for public hearings.

Stakeholder Engagement: Act as a technical subject-matter expert when meeting with policymakers, lobbyists, and community partners, effectively communicating our policy goals and research findings.

Collaborative Intelligence: Work alongside litigation and direct service teams to ensure our advocacy is informed by real-world experiences and that our policy positions address systemic barriers encountered by our clients.

Resource Development: Create and maintain internal "knowledge hubs" that summarize legal trends, precedents, and advocacy successes, ensuring our team remains informed and agile.

Requirements & Qualifications
Education: Juris Doctor (JD) degree; active bar membership is highly preferred but not always required depending on the focus (research vs. practice).

Experience: 3–5 years of experience in legal research, policy analysis, public interest advocacy, or legislative work.

Technical Skills:

Expertise in advanced legal research tools (Westlaw, LexisNexis, Bloomberg Law).

Strong aptitude for technical writing and editing, with the ability to adjust tone for different audiences (e.g., judges vs. community members).

Proficiency in tracking legislative activity and public policy developments.
